Nysos is done racing. Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert and co-owners Baoma Corporation and Coolmore partners made the official call to retire the five-year-old superstar.

Targeting the upcoming Pacific Classic at Del Mar and a fall run at the Breeders' Cup required an intense, high-pressure training schedule. From his jaw-dropping 10.5-length debut at Santa Anita that earned him TDN Rising Star status to his absolute demolition of top-tier fields as an older horse, he looked different. He possessed a terrifying blend of raw speed and tactical intelligence.
Remember his run in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap at Saratoga on June 6? He toyed with a loaded field, winning by four lengths over Knightsbridge and leaving Journalism nearly six lengths back. That race alone solidified his status as a dirt titan.
He captured the 2025 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile with authority. He traveled across the globe to Saudi Arabia this past February, engaging in a legendary, spine-tingling stretch duel against Forever Young in the Group 1 Saudi Cup. He didn't win that day, but he earned the respect of every racing fan on the planet.
The Next Chapter at Ashford Stud
Racing's loss is the breeding shed's massive gain.
Nysos will head to Kentucky to stand at Coolmore's prestigious Ashford Stud for the 2027 breeding season. As a son of champion sire Nyquist out of the high-dollar broodmare Zetta Z, his pedigree practically writes itself.
Susan and Charles Chu of Baoma Corp, who guided his early brilliance, plan to support his stallion career with their finest stakes-winning mares. Breeders are already lining up. You can't teach the kind of acceleration Nysos showed every single time he broke from the starting gate.
He leaves the dirt clean, sound, and entirely unblemished by tragedy. That's a rare victory in this sport.
